Community description:For writers of visual media

welcome.

Scripted is a Dreamwidth community for writers of screenplays, television scripts, stage plays and musicals, graphic novel and comic book scripts, radio scripts, and any other kinds of scripts you can think of!

Our focus is primarily on community, learning and discussion. I am also hoping to eventually make this a safe space for sharing and critique, and the occasional writing challenge.

This is a new community, so don't mind the dust! The current set of rules is listed below but is subject to being fiddled with as [community profile] scripted finds its voice.

rules.

1. Don't be a douche. Nobody likes a douche. Your mod reserves the right to freeze, screen or disable comments if she feels it is necessary. Be respectful of each other and it shouldn't be.

2. What content is considered appropriate for posting to the community? Anything that has to do with writing scripts. Simple! As long as you stay within the community's main topic, you're probably safe. But let's get specific.

You are encouraged to post:
  • questions and requests for advice about absolutely anything -- from formatting, to using different scriptwriting programs, to how the industry works, to... yet more formatting. I am aiming for such posts to make up a good portion of the community, so please don't be shy about using it as a resource.

The only exception to this is questions specifically about things that you need to research to give your story authenticity and factual accuracy. There is already a fantastic resource for this called [livejournal.com profile] little_details.

  • other useful resources you come across, both online and off.

  • thoughts on current examples of produced scripts, such as films, TV episodes, plays, etc. Reviews/critiques are welcome as long as they more or less focus on the writing (i.e., a post consisting entirely of "BOOTH AND BRENNAN ARE SO IN LOVE!!" or the latest innovations in Pixar's animation would not be appropriate).

  • news on contests, fellowships, and other places you can submit your scripts.

  • your 3 a.m. dark night of the soul in which you contemplate giving up writing forever and becoming a chiropractor.
Those familiar with the Dreamwidth format will be aware that comments aren't really meant to be moderated for on-topic versus off-topicness, but just in case it needs to be said: in comments, feel free to veer off-topic from the contents of the post and even script writing in general if that is where your discussion leads you.

If you're still unsure whether or not you should post something, please contact me (see below) and I'll be happy to give you a yes or no.

3. Please introduce yourself! You are a unique and beautiful snowflake and we'd like to get to know you. Just don't post an intro completely lacking in content, along the lines of "Hi, my name is _____, really looking forward to being a part of the community!" This just creates clutter on people's reading pages. However, I realize intros can be awkward, so if you'd like, please feel free to copy & paste the form below.

To see how other people have filled out their form, check out the intros tag! Of course, this is just a template, so of course you may add or remove anything you'd like or even forgo formatting entirely. You're not submitting a script here!

4. Folks of all levels of experience are welcome, from those with many scripts under their belts and experience in the industry to those whose first scripts are only a glimmer of possibility in their minds; from hobbyists to those with professional ambitions. We aim to be especially new-writer friendly, so if you're a veteran, be prepared to share your expertise!
